I love Memorial Day in America, especially the part about remembering the people that sacrificed their lives in the service of our country. These days, most people see Memorial Day as a long weekend that kicks off the summer. I see it as a chance to get out to the cemeteries and honor those that have fallen. These are flags from a new memorial in Albia, Iowa called the ‘Welcome Home Soldier Monument’. It’s put together by some local people.
It’s a deceptively large park. Most of what you see from the road are these flags, but there’s a lot more to it. This day was very windy and mostly cloudy, but I caught a break just in time to illuminate the flags. The colors are enhanced even more by the ECN chemistry used in the developing process. It’s as if I applied a filter on my smartphone, but this is all in the chemistry.
